What I ask myself when reading something …

Author
1. What else have they written?
2. Why do they write in general and why did they write this?
3. Did the environment where the author wrote the book affect the meaning/quality of the story?

Strengths and Weaknesses of the following:
1. Setting
2. Plot
3. Style
4. Characterization
5. Dialogue
6. Point-Of-View
7. Theme

Age Group:
1. Does it suit the audience intended? Why or why not?

Plot Questions:
1. Is the story believable?
2. Is the conflict believable?
3. Do the facts seem in order?
4. Is the purpose to entertain or mainly convey an idea? Do I agree with that idea?

More Character Questions:

1.Are the characters portrayed well?
2.Do each of the characters seem different and alive/real?
3.Do the main characters grow and change someway?
4.Are the emotions believable?
5.Does the story show respect to all people?

Art:
1.Does it have illustrations?
2.Does the book cover stand out? how? good or bad?
3.Text size and spacing appropriate?

Gut reactions to the book in general?
1. Like or dislike?
2. Believe or dont believe?
3. Learned something or not?
4. Anything to take away?
5. Would i read it again?
6. Would i recommend it?
7. Is it an important piece of fiction
8. Lasting thoughts on the book or is it just over?
9. What was unique? Why or why not?
10. What made me uncomfortable, if anything?
11. Has it increased my interest in the subject? or changed my opinion about something?
12. Could it be read aloud?
13. Does it remind me of anything else?
14.Would i have done it the same way as the character or the author?
